On Wednesday, April 3rd, MYD’s Women’s Issues Committee is kicking off an exciting year with its Fourth Annual Engendering Progress event, being held at Hudson Terrace.
Women’s Issues Chair Katie Petersen describes the non-partisan event as “solely focused on promoting women who are paving the way, and the organizations focused on promoting their issues.”
The event honors female leaders, activists, philanthropists, and entrepreneurs. The 2013 honorees are feminist writer and blogger Jessica Valenti, the international non-profit organization Girl Develop It, and the New York non-profit Sanctuary for Families.
Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception and the opportunity to hear the honorees speak. Tickets are open to the public for $15, and are available to MYD members for $10. To attend the event and join MYD, the ticket is $20.
Anyone interested in joining the Women’s Issues Committee after Engendering Progress can still have the chance to have an active role in the group. The meetings following the event, on April 9th and May 14th, will be pivotal to deciding the platform for the year. This platform will include a focus on supporting women running for office, volunteering for Sanctuary for Families, and training activists who can assist women to health care clinics around the city. Any new ideas will be welcomed at the meetings.
Ticket sales and additional information for Engendering Progress can be found on the event page.
