“We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.”
But progress over the past thirty years towards a more perfect Union has been slowed and in some cases, even reversed by a powerful trend: the rise of the modern Corporation. And with the Supreme Court’s absurd Citizens United decision last year, it has become imperative that we (the people) reverse the tide and restore democracy to its rightful owners.
No one is against profits or creating great products and services, but when the power of these businesses overshadow the citizenry of our nation, the result is destructive to society. Many modern Corporations have grown far larger than nations, have far more clout than the smartest and most educated individuals, slanting our entire political system towards one purpose: the rewriting of the rules to maximize profit.
This is not what our nation was founded on and will not encourage the prosperity and growth of America. We can, and must, do better.
