The Empire State Pride Agenda and City Council Speaker Christine Quinn are speaking out against Carl Paladino’s hateful rhetoric. While giving a speech to a group of Orthodox Jewish leaders in Brooklyn, Paladino made his views on gays and lesbians very clear:
I just think my children and your children would be much better off and much more successful getting married and raising a family, and I don’t want them brainwashed into thinking that homosexuality is an equally valid and successful option — it isn’t.
His comments are especially hurtful in light of the recent suicides of several gay teens around the country. This latest incident is a stark reminder that there is still much work to be done when it comes to full equality for gays and lesbians.
Join Speaker Quinn and other community leaders as they denounce Paladino’s remarks. The event will take place today at 11am, prior to the Columbus Day March, at 43rd St. and 5th Avenue.
