After State Sen. Ruben Diaz Sr. was asked if he was going to launch a coup he replied: “Ah, you watch.” From the Times Union blog:
“Senator Sampson doesn’t have the leadership. Our conference doesn’t have the leadership. He’s a joke. We don’t have the leadership. It’s a joke.”
“I don’t know,” he said when asked if he would switch the chamber leadership by siding with Republicans. “The only thing I could tell you is that what the Democratic conference did tonight relieves me of my agony, relieves from my anguish. Now I’m a free man. I’m a free man. Free at least. Free at least. Thank God almighty, I am free at last.”
As unbelievable as it may sound–the State Senate might soon become as dysfunctional as it was last summer during the State Senate Coup of Monserrate and Espada, except this time the state is in an even worse fiscal crisis. It seems to be free-for-all up there in Albany and we’re the ones suffering as they get no business done.
