Women’s issues have been in the news a lot recently. If you’re on birth control, guess what? Rush Limbaugh thinks you are a slut and a prostitute, just like Sandra Fluke, the woman who wasn’t allowed to speak at an all male hearing on contraception. Virginia lawmakers almost passed a bill requiring women seeking an abortion to undergo a vaginal ultrasound. And Susan G. Komen tried to de-fund Planned Parenthood.
Before you lose your faith in humanity, come to MYD’s third annual Engendering Progress, where we will honor women and organizations doing good in the world.
Engendering Progress will be held on Wednesday, March 21st, 6:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Greenhouse, 150 Varick Street in Manhattan. Our inspiring honorees include:
Hollaback! — A movement dedicated to ending street harassment using mobile technology.
Catalyst — A leading nonprofit organization expanding opportunities for women in business.
EngenderHealth — A global reproductive health organization working to improve the quality of health care in more than 20 countries around the world.
We are thrilled to have City Councilmember Jessica Lappin, who worked to pass legislation to strengthen protections for women seeking reproductive healthcare in NYC, as our special guest and keynote speaker.
Last year, more than 200 people attended and we are expecting another great showing this year!
Shout out to our amazing co-sponsors: Eleanor Roosevelt Legacy Committee, NARAL Pro Choice NY, NYSYD Caucus of Color, NYSYD Women’s Caucus, Paradigm Shift, Richmond County Young Democrats, WomenElect and W-Spin.
If you have questions, would like to join the host committee (hosts commit to sell 5 tickets), or want your organization to co-sponsor Engendering Progress, please email email@example.com. See you on the 21st!
