More than 40 people came out Monday to learn about sexism in the media (and have some snacks) at MYD’s Women’s Issues Committee screening of Miss Representation! Although women make up half of the population, women hold only 3% of top positions in the mainstream media. The result? The country seeing nearly all of its entertainment, news and advertising from a man’s point of view. Miss Representation highlights the shocking prevalence of sexism in media coverage, including political media coverage, its impact on young women and how it will affect the country’s next generation of female leaders with powerful stories from Rachel Maddow, Nancy Pelosi, Gloria Steinem, Katie Couric and many others (including some men).
