MYD is all about its members. The more it can offer them the better. As part of that philosophy, MYD is happy to announce the new MYD new Learning Labs – a set of free or extremely low cost, hands-on classes meant to engage and empower this generation with skills for more effective organizing, civic engagement, and professional success.
Expert MYD members will serve as volunteer instructors to the lucky members who land spots in each class. You can check out the description of each course on the Learning Labs page. This term, we’re offering:
- Spanish Language & Culture
- Dirty Data: Topics in Quantitative Social Science
- Fundamentals of Digital Graphic Design
- Basic Front End Web Development
- Photography for Storytelling
Each course will include whole group instruction with the teachers, as well as applied skill work focused on political and community organizing. For example, the Dirty Data class will focus on how to manipulate, summarize, and analyze political data, with an emphasis on how this is done in successful campaigns. Students in the Graphic Design class will learn Photoshop and design techniques, eventually creating materials for MYD to use. Similarly, the Spanish class will focus on language and conversation involving political and social issues. See full descriptions of each class here.
