Last night the Manhattan Young Democrats headed uptown for our monthly general meeting. We were hosted by the West Harlem Independent Democrats who graciously welcomed us to their club.
We were joined by some special guests, including County Democratic Leader and Assemblyman Keith Wright. Assemblyman Wright stressed the importance of youth involvement in politics and encouraged all of us to work with our local Democratic Clubs and District Leaders to affect positive change in our communities. He also answered some questions and encouraged us to contact his office if here were any issues we felt he should focus on.
City Councilman Robert Jackson dropped by and really fired us up with his stories about fighting for the rights of children and fighting against what he calls “inhumane” budget cuts. District Leader April Tyler, one of our hosts for the evening, encouraged us all to become involved in local campaigns and spoke of the importance of doing something meaningful in our community.
All in all it was a great meeting! You can learn more about what the West Harlem Independent Democrats do on their Facebook page.
