White Roof Project: NYC Officials, Volunteers Give Historic Bowery Mission ‘White’ Makeover

On Sunday, September 19th  State Assemblyman Jonathan Bing and City Councilwoman Margaret Chin will join volunteers atop the historic Bowery Mission complex to coat the roofs with energy-saving white reflective paint.

The 3-day, 10,000 square foot painting initiative is the first sponsored by the White Roof Project, an all-volunteer mission to identify and paint NYC roofs in an effort to reduce energy consumption and cut carbon emissions.

‘Project’ volunteers will be joined by painters from White Tops NYC, The Sierra Club and New Cool Roofs, organizations committed to reaching the city’s goal of repainting 1 million square feet of black tar roofs by year’s end.

When: “Chalk Talk” Training Begins at 9:00AM, Painting starts at 9:30a. Assemblyman Bing will arrive at 12:00pm, Councilwoman Chin at 1:00pm.
