NY-26: Never a Dull Moment
It all started with shirtless pics on Craig’s List. Who would have guessed that would end up being the least interesting part of the special election in NY-26. What should have been a cake walk in the R+6 district has turned into quite the sideshow. First there’s Jack Davis, the former Democrat who is now running on the Tea Party line. Polls show Davis has actually been quite effective at bleeding support from the establishment GOP nominee, Assemblywoman Jane Corwin. On Wednesday Davis was approached by a man with a camera and this happened: Which on its face is not particularly noteworthy, except it turns out that the guy who was holding the camera actually works for Assemblywoman Corwin! Daily … More >>
Monserrate Shunned in Jackson Heights – We Have Video
Yours truly was down at Jose Peralta HQ last Sunday helping to make sure Hiram Monserrate, the domestic abusing coup instigator re-running for State Senate in a special election after he was thrown out, doesn’t come within spitting distance of the finish line. While I’m there video taping a rally, this guy decides to campaign right outside the door. What ensues is both hilarious and ridiculous. Watching Monserrate stumble around without a clue as to what he’s doing is sure to bring a smile to anyone’s fact. Whata mook.
Weprin Defeats GOP Candidate In Special Election
When the polls closed Tuesday night for the special election to fill Mark Weprin’s 24th Assembly district seat in Queens, voters overwhelming decided that his brother David Weprin, former city councilman and ex-candidate for city comptroller was the best man for the job. Final results show that out of the roughly 6900 ballots cast, Weprin won with 62 % versus GOP candidate Bob Friedrich’s 38%. However this victory is not as long lasting as you may think. Weprin’s win only gives him the seat through November when he’ll have to campaign again for a full term of his own. Judging by the intensity from both sides during the last few weeks of this race, a re-match in the fall is definitely not out of the picture.
Holy #%@&, What Happened Yesterday?!
Yesterday was one frakking eventful day in NY politics. Let’s review: Good News: The NYS Senate voted overwhelmingly to tell Hiram Monserrate to take a hike. "I feel a lot better about us as an institution right now, that we finally did something that was correct. It was a step forward," said Albany Senator Neil Breslin. Word. For those who have blocked out this one and/or weren’t following the story, Monserrate is part of the “thug and thief” tag-team that started the state senate coup last summer. He was convicted of misdemeanor domestic assault charges recently but acquitted of felony charges, prompting many to demand that the senate Fire Monserrate. While Monserrate will go to court to overturn the senate’s … More >>
There’s an Election Next Tuesday. For Reals!
Last fall we had town, city and county elections, and a congressional special upstate. We won the Congressional special (yay!), but Jon Corzine lost the NJ governorship to this guy, we lost ground in Nassau County, and Democratic county executive Andy Spano got whupped in Westchester. And then Massachusetts happened, and I’m still kind of shocked that a popular sitting Democratic attorney general in Massachusetts lost to this guy. Seriously, what happened? BUT! We can turn over a new page next Tuesday, when voters in LI, Queens, and Westchester will be electing four new assemblymembers: Queens (AD24) – Weprins! Former Assemblyman Mark Weprin moved over to the City Council, so his brother David, who was on the council and ran … More >>
NY-23 Update
The special election in NY-23, for those who need a quick refresher, came about because Obama appointed Rep. John McHugh to be Secretary of the Army. Scozzafava was, rather controversially, running on the GOP line despite some fairly liberal views. She threw in the towel this past weekend and has (also controversially!) endorsed the Democratic candidate: Bill Owens instead of the Conservative candidate, Douglas Hoffman. From TAP, her statement: I want to thank you for your support and friendship. Over the past 24 hours, I have had encouraging words sent to my family and me. Many of you have asked me whom you should support on Tuesday. Since announcing the suspension of my campaign, I have thought long and hard … More >>
