Young Gets It Done in Croton-on-Hudson
From Westchester Young Democrats (and friends of MYD!) Kevin Davis and Brian Pugh Contrary to popular belief, Manhattan is not the full extent of New York. On March 15th, voters in the Village of Croton-on-Hudson, NY will be voting on Proposition 1 – to move their Village Elections from March to November. Eleven citizens led by two Young Democrats, Kevin Davis and Brian Pugh, initiated a referendum to move these village elections to November. The consequences of having a separate March village election is lower voter participation than in November and the actual fiscal cost to the village taxpayers of having to conduct their own fully separate separate election. For most of us who call ourselves progressives, however, that is not what progress looks like. So what is it? For many, “progressivism” is just a term used to … More >>
Dangerous Business
I was reading this post about how nationalization of certain banks could play out and the challenges Obama faces in devising a viable solution for the banking crisis. Suddenly a quote from Lord of the Rings popped into my head: "It’s a dangerous business…going out your door. You step out onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to." Dangerous business , indeed: The nationalization conversation has, probably rightly, proceeded from the premise of what policy is most likely to work. But in the White House, the principals are also presumably considering the costs of failure. And the failure of a policy of nationalization is a scarier prospect than … More >>
