Monserrate Shunned in Jackson Heights – We Have Video
Yours truly was down at Jose Peralta HQ last Sunday helping to make sure Hiram Monserrate, the domestic abusing coup instigator re-running for State Senate in a special election after he was thrown out, doesn’t come within spitting distance of the finish line. While I’m there video taping a rally, this guy decides to campaign right outside the door. What ensues is both hilarious and ridiculous. Watching Monserrate stumble around without a clue as to what he’s doing is sure to bring a smile to anyone’s fact. Whata mook.
PAC Set To Fight Opponents of Same-Sex Marriage
The Times this morning reported a new political action committee, called Fight Back New York, which is planning to raise “high six figures” in multiple State Senate races this year to fight all those who opposed the same-sex marriage bill. The campaigns first “target” is Hiram Monserrate, who is running in the special election for the seat he was thrown out of earlier this month. They are playing for keeps: The committee will start going after Mr. Monserrate, who was convicted of assaulting his female companion in a confrontation that left her requiring more than 20 stitches, by mailing fliers this week to voters in his district. The flier shows still frames of a surveillance video that shows him dragging … More >>
Holy #%@&, What Happened Yesterday?!
Yesterday was one frakking eventful day in NY politics. Let’s review: Good News: The NYS Senate voted overwhelmingly to tell Hiram Monserrate to take a hike. "I feel a lot better about us as an institution right now, that we finally did something that was correct. It was a step forward," said Albany Senator Neil Breslin. Word. For those who have blocked out this one and/or weren’t following the story, Monserrate is part of the “thug and thief” tag-team that started the state senate coup last summer. He was convicted of misdemeanor domestic assault charges recently but acquitted of felony charges, prompting many to demand that the senate Fire Monserrate. While Monserrate will go to court to overturn the senate’s … More >>
Monserrate Expelled!
Update: Governor Paterson has called a special election for Tuesday, March 15th to fill Monserrate’s vacant seat. Tonight the State Senate has voted by a count of 53 – 8 to expel Queens Senator Hiram Monserrate. Voting against the expulsion were Senators Monserrate, Espada, Diaz, and Kruger (the “gang of four” or “amigos”) and Senators Sampson, Dilan, Adams, and Parker. Although the expulsion is effective immediately, citizen Monserrate has already vowed to mount a legal challenge to the ousting. Rather than bringing a close to Mr. Monserrate’s legislative career, the expulsion could be the beginning of a lengthy fight that would play out in the courts and create further instability in the already volatile political atmosphere in Albany. As the … More >>
Monserrate Committee Report Is Out
Full report made available by the Albany Times-Union here – the committee concludes Monserrate “showed a reckless disregard for Ms. Geraldo’s well-being and for the severity of her injury,” and is, as the NYT puts it, “unfit to serve.” “The decisions made that night by Senator Monserrate as to the treatment of someone he ostensibly loved and cared for, were not consistent with the obvious need to obtain swift medical care for an injury of the seriousness of Ms. Giraldo’s,” the report states. “Whether the senator was worried for his political future or not, the evidence demonstrates both recklessness and callousness.” The nine-member committee, led by Senator Eric T. Schneiderman, a Democrat from Manhattan, also found that Mr. Monserrate’s actions … More >>
Monserrate = Jesus
I am at a loss for words. Watch the whole thing. (For readers who haven’t been following the thread–this is State Senator Hiram Monserrate, who joined the billionaire-instigated GOP “coalition” to throw the Senate into chaos two weeks ago, and then rejoined the Democratic conference days later to leave the chamber deadlocked at 31-31. He and other Dem leaders met at a “summit” convened by Rev Al Sharpton yesterday to discuss how to move forward.) “I’m never going to compare myself to anyone in the biblical context but I remember Jesus himself, when he saw that in the temple there were merchants setting up shop and they began hussle their wares, he began to turn over a few tables along … More >>
