National Phenomenon?
Last year was tremendous for the Manhattan Young Democrats. We led a fight in our own state on Marriage Equality. We won awards in Chicago and trained young people there how to be awesome. We even picked a fight with the South Carolina GOP. New York – check Chicago – check South Carolina – check And now, MYD is being cited as an example for a “new model for City-wide or local political activism” by Democratic organizers in Baltimore who are inviting Dems from all over their city to a brainstorming session to reinvigorate their clubs. MYD FTW! #yda2009
Some serious NYC pride coming out of the 2009 YDA Convention in Chicago: MYD took home two awards! First, the blood, sweat, and tears that culminated in 80 MYDers on the ballot for County Committee seats paid off: Open Seat Project won Outstanding One-Time Event. We also won Local Chapter of the Year. This award went to a total of three chapters. This was extremely hard on our delegation because as we all know, New Yorkers aren’t very good at sharing.
