Shocker: Fox Parent News Corp Gives Republicans Huge Check
DOG BITES MAN! News Corp., which owns Fox News and the New York Post, gave $1 million to Haley Barbour’s Republican Governors Association this year, according to the RGA’s most recent filing. The company’s media outlets play politics more openly than most, but the huge contribution to a party committee is a new step toward an open identification between Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. and the GOP. The company’s highest-ranking Democratic executive, Peter Chernin, recently departed. Sure, kind of obvious, but as Politico points out, even for News Corp this is kind of a big step further in the direction of open partisanship. Following the Bloomberg Campaign Money Trail
The NYTimes and NY POST both reports on a recent investigation opened up by the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office regarding $ 1.2 million given to the State Independence Party by the Bloomberg campaign that later went to pay John Haggerty, a Republican party operative, $750,000 for his work to secure between 200 to 300 workers for poll watching activities on Election day last November. There would be no problem with the contribution going to the Independence Party solely for operational costs. But if the funds were directed to Haggerty for services he provided specifically to Bloomberg’s campaign, such services would then be considered a campaign expenditure.
