Let’s Make a Deal!

It looks like New York State might actually pass a budget on time.  On Sunday Governor Cuomo and State Legislative leaders announced they had reached a deal on the budget. The agreement, five days before the March 31 budget deadline, offered the prospect of Albany’s first on-time budget in five years. If enacted by lawmakers, the deal would cut the state’s overall year-to-year spending for the first time in more than a decade. Left out of the budget was the “Millionaire’s tax” which many Democrats supported, as well as an extension of rent regulations which are set to expire in June.  The budget also includes significant cuts to education and social services. Whoops: Real Cuomo Website Linked to Fake Cuomo Twitter

NYCTheBlog is on the tweetgate case, but it remains unclear how the fake account was linked to by real website. Still, it’s very easy to confuse the two at first glance. Cuomo spokesman Josh Vlasto said he was aware of the problem and it was being fixed.  Just after 12:30, the link appeared to have been fixed. To be clear: @NYGovernor is a parody. @NYGovCuomo is real. … More >>

Cuomo: “I Want A Functioning State Senate”

Cuomo, appearing on WOR’s “The John Gambling Show,” also sidestepped a question on whether he believed a Republican-controlled Senate would be more helpful to him than one run by the Democrats. “I want a functioning state Senate,” Cuomo told Gambling. “These are very big choices that we have to make, and we need to actually act, so I need a body that performs and a body that can function.” Control of the state Senate hinges on three races that remain too close to call and won’t likely be settled anytime soon. With thousands of absentee ballots remaining to be opened and numerous court challenges expected to be filed, activists on both sides concede that the recount battles could stretch into … More >>

Cuomo On Track

Governor-elect Andrew Como isn’t wasting any time.  He’s written a letter to Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood requesting federal funding for a high speed rail system.  The NY Daily News has the scoop.  In the letter Cuomo writes: High speed rail could be transformative for New York—with the potential to revitalize Upstate New York’s economy with construction jobs now and permanent jobs created by the new high speed rail links to New York City, Toronto and Montreal in the future. That is why I made high speed rail a priority during my campaign, and that is why it will continue to be a top priority for me as Governor. The Republican Governors-elect of Ohio and Wisconsin have both expressed their intentions … More >>
