Six Months In

What a busy year it’s been for the Manhattan Young Democrats – we can’t believe it’s only June!  Over the past 6 months MYD has certainly lived up to to its mission to educate, activate and empower.
  • We honored three amazing women’s organizations at our 3rd Annual Engendering Progress awards, headlined by New York City Councilmember Jessica Lappin.
  • We co-hosted the hugely successful Save Our Beer event which highlighted the dangers that hydrofracking pose to our local water supply.
  • We invaded Brooklyn to canvass for Lew Fidler.
  • We recruited volunteers to register voters at Yankee Stadium.
  • We volunteered with City Harvest and New York Cares.
  • We hosted a Community Board forum with CB 1 Chair Julie Menin
  • We teamed up with New Yorkers for Safe Transit to fight street harassment
  • We hosted a Congressional primary candidate forum in Washington Heights
  • We co-hosted a Pride Month panel discussion with the Stonewall Democrats of NYC
  • We’ve been covered in Time Out New York and the Climate Desk.
So what do we have planned for the second half of the year?
  • Voter Registration events
  • Our 4th Annual Young Gets It Done awards
  • Major volunteer efforts for both State Senate and Congressional races this Fall.
  • An MYD Lobby Day
Not bad for an all-volunteer organization!  And there are still plenty of opportunities to get involved.  You can join one of our Issue Oriented Committees, sign up for a community service event or volunteer to help out on a campaign this Fall.  And you’re always welcome to drop by one of our general meetings.  We always go out for drinks afterwards, so you can get to know your fellow Young Dems.
Thank you to everyone who has made this year amazing so far.  We’re really looking forward to the next 6 months!
