Obama Gets Tough on Gun Violence

Today President Obama announced 23 Executive Actions he will take to stem gun violence in the United States.  According to The White House, the President’s plan includes:

1. Closing background check loopholes to keep guns out of dangerous hands
2. Banning military-style assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and taking other common-sense steps to reduce gun violence
3. Making schools safer
4. Increasing access to mental health services.

Gun control advocates are hailing the President’s efforts.  According to Ladd Evveritt, spokesperson for the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence , “[t]he executive order [the President] signed today is critically important and, in conjunction with the legislative package he has referred to Congress, could put our nation on a path to a place where days like December 14, 2012 will no longer be possible.”
