MYD’s second annual Engendering Progress was a huge success! More than 220 people attended (including almost 50 new members!) to honor women thought-leaders, activists and philanthropists.
This was an incredible showing of support for the honorees — GEMS, Women’s Media Center, Domestic Workers United, Krista Brenner (campaign manager for Tony Avella, who led the fight to oust one of the most anti-woman incumbents in NY) and Daily Show co-creator Lizz Winstead — and for women’s rights.
MYD and the honorees were joined by special guest NYC Public Advocate Bill De Blasio and Sabrina Shulman, Political Director for NARAL Pro-Choice NYC, who was able to add 150 signatures at the event to NARAL’s petition demanding that Washington not cut Title X funding for birth control and family planning. This is still a real threat to women’s health. Will a budget deal be reached this week, or will the government shut down tomorrow? Stay tuned, and know that you made a difference in supporting women’s rights and access to healthcare by attending Engendering Progress! (Even if you just came for the Rosie’s Punch.)
To continue your support and activism, join the Women’s Issues Committee! The next meeting is Monday, April 11 at Planned Parenthood NYC’s Headquarters at 26 Bleecker Street. And keep checking Engendering Progress honoree Lizz Winstead’s website — she will be touring around the country performing comedy shows to benefit Planned Parenthood this summer!
