Pelosi Supports Marriage Equality!
As gay rights groups push to have marriage equality included in the 2012 Democratic Party platform, they are getting support from a prominent figure: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi. According to her spokesperson, Pelosi supports the language put forth by Freedom to Marry, which reads as follows: We support the full inclusion of all families in the life of our nation, with equal respect, responsibilities, and protections under the law, including the freedom to marry. Government has no business putting barriers in the path of people seeking to care for their family members, particularly in challenging economic times. Support for Obama Among His Base Remains Strong
There are two interesting articles out today that point to a positive trend for President Obama’s reelection campaign. First, the Washington Post’s Chris Cillizza reports that the President’s support among his base remains as stong as any recent President seeking reelection. Although African Americans remain the base group most broadly supportive of Obama, liberals and Democrats are very much in his camp as well. In Gallup’s most recent data, Obama’s job approval rating stood at 78 percent among Democrats and 70 percent among liberals. The Naysayer Party’s War on Voting
Voter disenfranchisement once again appears to be a pivotal party platform of the naysayer party. via RolllingStone.com Republicans have long tried to drive Democratic voters away from the polls. “I don’t want everybody to vote,” the influential conservative activist Paul Weyrich told a gathering of evangelical leaders in 1980. “As a matter of fact, our leverage in the elections quite candidly goes up as the voting populace goes down.” But since the 2010 election, thanks to a conservative advocacy group founded by Weyrich, the GOP’s effort to disrupt voting rights has been more widespread and effective than ever. Sarah Palin Recounts Paul Revere’s Historic Ride
It’s actually kind of painful to watch. Too bad we have to cut history and civics from education so we can keep taxes low. If only we had some way of knowing which were more important to society.
