Pelosi Supports Marriage Equality!

As gay rights groups push to have marriage equality included in the 2012 Democratic Party platform, they are getting support from a prominent figure: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.  According to her spokesperson, Pelosi supports the language put forth by Freedom to Marry, which reads as follows: We support the full inclusion of all families in the life of our nation, with equal respect, responsibilities, and protections under the law, including the freedom to marry. Government has no business putting barriers in the path of people seeking to care for their family members, particularly in challenging economic times. Amendment to the By-Laws

On Tuesday, February 21st the general membership of MYD will be asked to vote on an amendment to the MYD By-Laws.  Namely, the addition of the Women’s Issues Committee to the list of standing committees.  The amended section would read as follows: ARTICLE VII – STANDING COMMITTEES Section 1 The standing committees of the Manhattan Young Democrats shall be: the Finance Committee, Healthcare Issues Committee, Economic Issues Committee, Community and Social Equity (CASE) Committee, Environmental Issues Committee, Foreign Affairs Committee, Transportation Committee, Education Committee and Women’s Issues Committee. To vote on this amendment you must be a dues-paid member of MYD.  If you have any questions about this amendment, please email Kim at president@gomyd.com

Tomorrow morning the state will be holding a hearing on the proposed district lines released by LATFOR last week.  As we’ve mentioned, MYD vehemently opposes the lines as drawn as signed on this Downstate Young Democrats statement calling on Governor Cuomo to veto the proposal.
