Thank You! Your Hard Work Made It Possible!

Well, we got through it-with some scrapes and bruises, but also a few surprising and hard won victories. In New York, we move forward with a Democratic Governor, Attorney General, and Comptroller; a trifecta that will make it possible to help those who need it most in New York and move the state  in a positive progressive direction. The State Senate and State Assembly results were more of a mixed bag, which means that all New Yorkers will have to remain politically active to ensure that our government truly represents us. (Hint-MYD is already on it, so you can join us in doing that!) But, since term limits passed overwhelmingly, at least those elected know that they are not just … More >>

New Voting Technology for Tomorrow: Find Your Polling Place, Scan Your Ballot, and Check In For A Badge!!

New technology abounds for tomorrow’s election.  There are some really interesting things happening, but here’s the quick and dirty version for busy voters: First, look up your polling place here-including a map from your home to the polls, courtesy of the Voting Information Project. Next, check out the new voting system in NYC-just in case you missed it in the primaries or need a refresher. And, finally, after you cast your vote, be sure to earn your FourSquare I Voted badge (the site goes live tomorrow). Voting technology is booming in response to shamefully low voter turnout.  According to the Voting Information Project,  almost 2 million people didn’t vote in 2008 because they didn’t know where their polling place was. … More >>

Restore Sanity in NYC Tomorrow at the MYD and DL21C Canvass for Tony Avella in Queens!

We kicked out Hiram Monseratte.  We booted Pedro Espada. Next up: Frank Padavan. If you care about marriage equality, cleaning up Albany corruption and generally making our state government less of a national embarrassment, this is the fight for you! That’s why MYD is getting out the vote for Tony Avella on Saturday, 10/30. He is the Democratic candidate for New York State Senate in Queens’ 11th District. His opponent is anti-marriage equality, just-say-no, 38-year (!) Republican incumbent Frank Padavan, who nearly lost his seat in ’08.  This race is going to be one of the closest of this election season and Tony needs your help! FREE train tickets and FREE lunch when we get out there! Co-Sponsored by DL21C! … More >>

MYD Takes Action and Boosts Carlucci Campaign!

If you’re reading this blog, you probably know that MYD knows how to throw a pretty fabulous event.   But, we also get down and dirty when progressive causes and candidates need our help.  And, when we do, there’s no stopping us. This weekend, we conjured up distant memories of  how to drive, and headed off to Rockland County for the weekend to help David Carlucci-a young (very at 30 years old,) progressive candidate- to take a traditionally Republican state senate seat. In just 2 days of canvassing, MYD’s group covered 13% of the Carlucci campaign’s total turf! Those are incredible numbers.  And, we didn’t stop there.  Last night, we continued our weekend work with a phone banking effort reaching … More >>
