Progressive Mega Party with the President (on TV)!

It’s that time again-when the President takes over the airwaves to thrill us all with just about everything that can possibly be stuffed into a single speech.  He will brave potential hecklers from every side, so the least we can do is brave the subway to get to a bar and watch!  This year, you can yell at the TV in the company of like-minded wonks.  Join members and friends from four leading NYC progressive organizations-Manhattan Young Democrats, DL21C, NYDLC and OFA-for a State of the Union Watch Party! It’s Election Day (Again)!!

Besides giving you a long weekend, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is an excellent reminder of the power of strong political and social leadership.  We may not be up to Dr. King’s level just yet, but we work hard, get results, and push the progressive agenda forward.  And, today is your chance to be part of the change we believe in and choose who will lead the way. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand on The Daily Show Tonight!

Both Sen. Gillibrand and Jon Stewart have been ardent supporters of the James Zadroga Health Care Bill for 9/11 responders.  Stewart devoted an entire show to it and Gillibrand has begun to make a serious name for herself with a successful campaign to pass the legislation during the lame duck session.  President Obama signed the bill on Sunday, so it should be interesting to watch these two delve into it and other issues on the agenda for NY and the country.

We had a packed house of 150 progressives and 125 of you  joined or renewed just on that one night.  Santa and Mrs. Claus helped us get in the  holiday spirit while Bill de Blasio and Gustavo Rivera got us fired up for the year ahead.  Mostly, we just enjoyed our friends-old and new (and, of course, that open bar). … More >>

In Honor of Veterans Day, Thank You For Your Service. We Support You.

To all veterans, active duty soldiers, their families and friends: THANK YOU for everything you do for our country. Democrats are often-incorrectly-associated with not being supportive of the military.  We are accused of trying to insert liberal values into the armed forces to the detriment of its effectiveness.  Most progressives know that our concerns and criticisms are not of the people who serve, but rather of the sometimes irresponsible decisions made by politicians and military leaders that needlessly endanger their lives.   Furthermore, it is an incorrect assumption that service members themselves are not politically progressive.   It is imperative that we learn to effectively communicate our support for the people who serve in our military while still pushing for … More >>
