Monserratitus of the Queens

So… Hiram Monserrate didn’t seem to get the message on Tuesday and is apparently looking at running for State Assembly, you know, for that recently vacated seat of the guy who left the Assembly to replace (and beat) some jerk who was expelled for roughing up his girlfriend. How long before Queens will be rid of this infection? What other offices can Hiram lose a run for? Or is it, as many of us believe, all just a continuing ploy to raise money to pay off his legal fees? Ousted Senator Monserrate Gunning for Assembly (Gothamist)

MYD EXCLUSIVE: The Rejected Monserrate Logos

After applauding Hiram Monserrate’s graphic design team for their innovative – some might even say revolutionary new campaign logo – MYD has obtained the 3 other logo designs that Hiram considered using. As you can see they are equally groundbreaking and ingenious, particularly for their use of the Q, for Queens:

OFA Requesting Monserrate Cease Use of Logo

Regarding Hiram Monserrate’s use of the Obama logo, we just heard the following from OFA: “This use of the logo is neither approved nor supported by Organizing for America. The campaign did not seek nor do they have permission to use the it. We are asking them to remove it from their materials.” Considering that being expelled from the Senate didn’t seem to influence him, we’ll have to see if Monserrate complies… ( h/t: Ben Yee ) UPDATE: Not only have they not stopped using the logo yet, but Monserrate’s campaign has launched a brand new (not entirely functional) website, using the logo in multiple places, including the site’s favicon: The updated website makes no mention whatsoever of the coup … More >>

No, You Can’t.

Yesterday MYD pointed out that convicted domestic abuser and expelled State Senator Hiram Monserrate had left his campaign site untended, allowing people (like you) to go and tell him (and anyone else that would then visit his site) what a cruel clueless egomaniac he was. We hit social media with it and the story made it around the internets until eventually City Room at the New York Times ran a quick piece on it. Alas today the site is changed, guestbook gone, and arrived is a new index page that looks like this: It had been reported before that he was using “Yes We Can/Si Se Puede” in the spirit of either Obama or Cesar Chavez – but to actually … More >>

NYT Paterson Article #2 Arrives

So the big New York Times expose that was rumored to outline resign-able offenses has never materialized, and probably won’t. Instead there have now been two anything but flattering articles, the second of which was published last night. First, on Tuesday there was a profile of Paterson’s senior adviser David W. Johnson which goes into his troubled past and sudden rise to be one of the most important players in Paterson’s administration. That being said, it’s not entirely convincing in the sense of actually showing Paterson to be a bad governor. Anonymous staffers indicate Johnson is not a good adviser, and the article sort of wonders aloud if a criminal background, especially (unproven) allegations of domestic abuse, should preclude someone … More >>
