Last week, the Senate rejected the House Republicans’ spending package, which included plans to strip Planned Parenthood of its federal funding, a clear attack on women’s rights. But the Senate also rejected the Democratic spending package, so it’s back to square one with the GOP-led House.
“The new leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives has wasted no time in showcasing their true agenda: attacking women’s access to reproductive health care,” said NARAL Pro-Choice New York Political Director Sabrina Shulman. “This is not what members of Congress campaigned on and not what the American people want. Recent attacks on women’s access to abortion care and family planning services defy common sense, both morally and economically. Placing burdensome barriers to abortion care and limiting access to family planning will not stop women from needing these services; it will only force women to take drastic measures to get the care they need. The pro-choice majority in this country must stand up and make our voices heard.”
