Republicans Obstruct Finance Reform

The Republicans today blocked the Finance Bill for the third straight day. The Republicans agree that something needs to be done about financial services reform, and even that the legislation will be approved, but are unwilling to move to debate over some minor details. The Republicans are facing a difficult path in trying to keep this up. One could see the type of pressure that the Republicans are facing from this exchange on this morning’s Today show: “Senator Collins, that does bring up the irony here,” the Today host, Matt Lauer said. “Both of you agree changes have to be made, that this is an unacceptable situation. And yet for the second time yesterday, Republicans blocked further debate on this … More >>

Mayor Bloomberg: Arizona Is Hurting America

Today Mayor Bloomberg published an Op-Ed in the Daily News slamming the Arizona law as potentially unconstitutional and undeniably against the culture that makes America great. Enjoy. What’s at stake here is nothing less than America’s international reputation as the most open and attractive marketplace in the world, and our standing as the world’s strongest economic superpower. Hands On New York Day

Last Saturday MYD headed up to Sugar Hill to take part in the Spring edition of Hands on NY Day! Lucky for us, the day was beautiful there wasn’t a cloud in sight. We cleaned up an alley next to a community garden on 149th and Edgecomb Avenue, and save for one terrifying moment involving a buried baby doll, the day went off without a hitch! Residents in the neighborhood came out to thank us and offer us the use of their homes so we wouldn’t be subjected to the provided port-a-potty. Bank of America even bought us pizza when all the work was done! See, nothing brings people together like a little Community Service! Check out the pictures below … More >>

For some reason, Saturdays on C-Span seem to be Tea-Party day.  Over the last few months, I’ve been idling flipping channels and suddenly Sarah Palin or Ron Paul will pop up on my screen and I’ll find myself dragged in for an hour of morbid fascination.  Last week, I ran across a Tax Day protest on the mall in DC…  I didn’t catch anyone particularly compelling, although I did enjoy watching former Saturday Night Live star Victoria Jackson crash and burn with a totally … More >>

Espada Walks Out Of CBS Interview

When asked this weekend about whether he is really living in Westchester, State Senator Pedro Espada Jr. stormed off in the middle of Tv interview: He got testy when reporter Marcia Kramer reminded him that when she approached him last year outside his Mamaroneck home, he donned an orange ski cap and held a baby in front of his face to hide from the camera before speeding off in a car driven by his wife. “I was not hiding from anybody. I’ve owned that home since 1991,” he said. “This is not a mudslinging session, so I say. If you want to make it that, you can come hide in the bushes at my house and you repeat the same … More >>
