The special election in New York’s 13th Senate District is beginning to heat up. Hiram Monserrate, who was stripped of his Senate seat last month for his assault conviction, is running for re-election to the SAME SEAT HE WAS REMOVED FROM. Only in New York, folks.
His constituents aren’t happy about it either. His campaign website’s own guestbook contains mostly vehement swears about his job performance, scandal, and poor priorities. My favorite quote: “You are a g–d-m law breaker and you want to continue to make laws for this state?!” Another good one: “your politics are atrocious, your behavior even more so. I call for your resignation and a public apology to your girlfriend.”
There have only been 6 comments since June 2008, and just in case they wise up and take it down, I’ve provided a screen shot above. But this is an opportunity we just can’t pass up. I wrote that Monserrate is a pendejo.
At a Monserrate political rally last Monday, Monserrate supporter Reverend Ricardo Reyes said “I have seen a whole generation of children sunk down by the gay community.”
Replace “gay community” in that phrase with “Jewish community” or “Latino community,” and ask yourself if any politician in the country would (or should) get away with accepting an endorsement from the person that made the statement.
I demanded a retraction of the statement from Reyes; he responded with a refusal and a bunch of religious idiocy.
The passive-aggressive nature of hiding anti-gay hatred behind “Christian love” is outrageous and unacceptable. All the scientific and clinical evidence shows that homosexuality is as inborn and natural as eye color or having ten toes between two feet. When a religious community repeats time and again that homosexuality is a “spiritual problem” that can be “solved through Christ,” the young gay people in that community’s human rights are being violated. It is a form of domestic abuse against the young gay people; and furthermore, that abuse is being encouraged by religious leaders. Those hateful leaders should be held accountable for inciting emotional abuse against young gay people.
Monserrate has accepted a political endorsement from a religious leader who consciously and in an ongoing way is motivating his congregation to abuse the young gay people in their families. Those young gay people are victims, just as surely as Karla Giraldo was when Monserrate forcibly dragged her away from ringing a neighbor’s doorbell for rescue from Monserrate.
Monserrate’s inner nature is that of a sadist who feel entitled to hurt other people without suffering any consequences. I question who has been paying his lawyers’ fees for all of his various appeals. We know only that they are anonymous deep-pocketed friends of his. If those donors have considerable enough business interests in Queens and elsewhere, they could be capable of going church to church and door to door in Queens, offering people money to vote for Monserrate.
What audacity this man has to run again….Hiram Monserrat, why don’t you run and hide instead!! You are an embarrassment to public office. I will not support anyone who thinks they’re above the law and despite clear evidence still plays the victim card. The only victim in this story is your poor girlfriend who is abused by you. Why don’t you publicly apologize to her and move on away from any public position. You are shameful!!!!
