Democratic State Senator Liz Krueger on the GOP Power Grab

Krueger: I think that this is clearly a Republican power grab that really has nothing to do with bipartisanship and reform. After all, these guys held the Senate for forty years and were NEVER interested in reform or bipartisanship for those forty years. And I think you will see pretty clearly that they’re not interested in it now either.

I suppose that stealing my ideas is the highest compliment. I’ve worked on reform issues since I got here seven years ago. Again, they had no interest in it through yesterday and I suspect they don’t have any interest in it today. It makes a good press story to tie-in with a power grab coup by the Republicans.

Again, I just want to go on record: the Democrats in November 2008 won the majority of votes in the state of New York, they won them federally, state-wide and for the state Senate.

Two gentlemen with their own problems decided they would sell-our their voters and their party…they both have legal and ethical problems.

I think this was a power-grab because [the Republicans] felt totally threatened by Democratic ideals and Democratic agendas going forward in the state of New York.

She also says that marriage equality is less likely to pass as a result of yesterday’s events. Listen to her full remarks here.
