New York Gov. David Paterson (D) today said that he plans to re-introduce legislation making same-sex marriage legal in the state. “We’ll put a bill out and let the people decide one way or the other,”

    This seems like a publicity stunt by Gov Paterson. It’s a no-risk move for him. He proposes the legislation, looks like the good guy, all the while knowing there aren’t enough votes in the Senate to pass it–seems like a hollow symbolic gesture since he has no power to compel support.

    Politicker is reporting that, Paterson’s ’sink or swim’ approach to the bill is not supported by the very legislators who support the bill.
